Das Festland von Sarasota, Zentrum der Theater und Kunstszene, bietet

die seit langer Zeit bekannt ist für ihre Kunstfestivals, Restaurants
und den beliebten Farmers Markt, auf dem am Samstagmorgen echte tropische

In den Seitenstraßen erwartet Sie dann eine ganz andere Welt, u.
a. die exklusiven Kunstgalerien in der Palm Avenue, die Antiquitäten
und Trödelläden an der Pineapple Avenue und die Kunststudios
und Galerien mit karibischem Flair im Towles Court. Sind Sie bereit für
eine Kostprobe floridianischer Küche? Probieren Sie hiesige Kochkunst
in der Central Avenue und beobachten Sie das bunte Treiben der Künstler
aus der Nachbarschaft. Oder Sie könnten natürlich auch einmal
kurz in der Selby Library vorbeischauen und dort die buntglänzenden,
tropischen Fische im Torbogen-Aquarium betrachten.
Der Island Park verbindet Sie dann mit dem nautischen Teil der Stadt.
Dort können Sie eine Bootsfahrt bei Sonnenuntergang, einen Angelausflug
bei Sonnenaufgang oder aber einfach nur einen Spaziergang entlang der
Hafenanlage machen. Für die Kids gibts einen Plansch- und Spielbrunnen
mit lustigen Manatee- und Alligatorskulpturen. Jogger und Rollerblader
bevölkern den Weg entlang der Bucht, für Paare gibts Schaukelbänke
mit Blick übers Wasser in Richtung der Marie Selby Botanical Gardens,
einem idyllischen Ort voller tropischer Pflanzen vom Bambus bis hin zur
bunten Vielfalt exotischer Bromelien.
Um sich einen 'Überblick zu Lande' zu verschaffen, empfehlen wir eine Fahrt mit dem 'Downtown Trolley', das eine schöne Tour durch den Kulturbezirk vorbei an Theatern, Museen und Galerien jeglicher Art bietet. Dieses Frühjahr findet ein aufregender neuer Event im Zentrum von Sarasota, im Ritz-Carlton Hotel, statt: das Florida Weinfest mit Auktion. Das Weinfest ist die drittgrößte Wohltätigkeits-Weinveranstaltung in den Vereinigten Staaten.
